Teaching Method: Question and Answer

Writer: A. Adib Dzulfahmi

The notion of question and answer method is a teaching
method that is used as a direct communication where the teacher asks questions
and students answer about the material they get or vice versa students ask and
the teacher answers so that students are motivated. This understanding shows
that the question and answer method requires direct communication between
teachers and students so that there is not only one-way communication. However,
in this communication, there is a direct reciprocal relationship between
teachers and students, even students and students. Because when students give
the right answers, it can encourage other students to provide responses and ask
questions.

Thus the question and answer method is a verbal utterance
that asks for a response from someone who gets a response to be given, which
can be in the form of knowledge of things that are the result of consideration.
So asking is an effective stimulation that encourages thinking skills. The
question and answer method here is intended to introduce knowledge, and certain
facts that have been taught and to stimulate students’ attention in various
ways (such as apperception, distraction and evaluation).

In addition, in the history of the development of Islam,
the question and answer method is also known , because this method is often
used by the Prophets. And the Prophet was in teaching the teachings he brought
to his people. Besides that, this method is the oldest besides lectures, but
its effectiveness is greater than other methods. Because of this method,
understanding and understanding can be obtained more steadily.

From the discussion above, the writer concludes that the
advantages of the question and answer method are : (1) it can train students’
courage to express opinions or ask questions, (2) help students to better
understand the material being taught, (3) teachers can see how the level of
understanding of each student.

In addition to the advantages, the question and answer
method also has several weaknesses, such as: (1) in formal learning which has a
time limit, the question and answer method will spend more time, (2) it is
often possible for questions and statements submitted by students to be far
from wide. the main discussion, therefore it requires direct direction and
supervision from a teacher.
