Education is an important part of life. It helps people learn new things, develop skills,
and prepare for the future. However, having schools and teachers is not enough to ensure
quality education. The quality of education is very important because it affects how well
students learn and how they use their knowledge in real life. A good education system helps
students to think, solve problems, and succeed in life. One of the main problems in many
education systems is the frequent curriculum changes that happen every time a new education
minister takes office. These constant changes disrupt the learning process, leaving students
and teachers to adapt again and again. Instead of replacing the curriculum completely, what is
needed is consistency and gradual revision. A well-structured and stable curriculum ensures
that students receive a better education without confusion or frequent adaptations.
One of the biggest problems caused by frequent curriculum changes is the disruption
of the learning process. Every time a new curriculum is introduced, teachers have to adapt
their teaching methods, and students have to adapt to new materials.
This transition period
often results in a loss of effective learning time, as educators and students struggle to
familiarize themselves with the new system. In reality, sudden curriculum changes have
caused confusion among teachers and students. Teachers are often not given enough time or
proper training to understand the new curriculum before it is implemented. This results in
ineffective teaching, where educators just follow the guidelines without fully understanding
the intended learning outcomes. As a result, students may end up with incomplete or
inconsistent knowledge, which affects their academic progress. While some argue that
changing the curriculum is necessary to keep up with the demands of modern education, this
problem can be better addressed through systematic revision rather than a complete change.
Countries with stable education systems, such as Finland, have shown the benefits of
maintaining a consistent curriculum. According to Kompas (2019), Finland ensures that its
curriculum remains relevant without causing unnecessary disruptions by making small but
well-planned adjustment rather than drastic changes. As a result, students receive a well-
rounded education that prepares them for future challenges without unnecessary disruptions.
A stable and well-structured curriculum allows teachers and students to focus on deep
learning rather than constant adaptation. When a curriculum stays consistent over time,
teachers have the opportunity to refine their teaching methods, develop better learning
materials, and implement more effective strategies. This results in a more engaging and
productive learning environment. Rather than struggling to adapt to frequent changes,
teachers can concentrate on improving students; understanding and critical thinking skills.
Rather than completely changing the curriculum with each change of leadership, a
more effective approach is to evaluate and revise it gradually. Periodic assessments should be
conducted to identify which aspects need to be improved while maintaining the core
structure. Therefore, students can receive an updated and relevant education without
unnecessary disruptions to their learning process. The gradual revision process ensures that
any necessary adjustments are based on thorough research and educational needs, rather than
sudden policy changes. This approach allows teachers to prepare and adapt more effectively,
leading to better teaching quality. In addition, small but well-planned improvements help
students transition smoothly without confusion. Instead of discarding the existing curriculum
completely, enhancing certain elements ensures that learning remains effective and relevant
while minimizing disruption.
In conclusion, maintaining curriculum consistency is very important to ensure quality
education. Frequent curriculum changes can disrupt the learning process and create confusion
for teachers and students. In contrast, a stable curriculum allows for deeper learning and the
development of more effective teaching strategies. Rather than replacing the complete
curriculum every time there is a change in leadership, a more effective approach is to revise
the curriculum gradually based on thorough evaluation and research. Therefore, the
government should establish clear policies that prioritize curriculum stability and ensure that
any revisions are based on educational needs and not on political agendas.
